Wired or Wireless Mouse Which Is Best For You

Should I buy a wired mouse or a wireless mouse?

There has been a debate about wired vs. wireless mice for years, and it is unlikely to disappear anytime soon. So what's the big deal? Just pick one and run, right? Not exactly.

There are still some pros and cons, as well as some advantages and disadvantages to using either wired or wireless mice.
  • Wired mice
  • Wireless mice
  • Does the debate rage on?

Wired mice

Although it may seem like wired mice are a thing of the past, many people continue to swear by them.

Why?

Better precision and response are needed for gaming and graphic design.

Nowadays we have wireless mice that supposedly have a very close level of precision compared to a wired mouse.

Since wired mice have a much lower input lag, many professional gamers and graphic designers continue to use them.

It is good to know that your mouse is as precise as possible in industries where milliseconds and micrometers matter a lot.

No interference

Using Bluetooth headphones to listen to music while typing on a Bluetooth keyboard and pointing to a Bluetooth mouse could result in hiccups.

Bluetooth is very good when it comes to avoiding interference, but with the expansion of wireless-enabled devices, the problem remains unavoidable.

When you've got a wired mouse, you'll never have to worry about freezing from too much air traffic.

No worry about battery life

There's no need to worry about a spare cable to connect it to and recharge it or a stash of spare batteries with a wired mouse.

You don't have to worry about your batteries dying earlier than planned.

You're trying to put the final touches on a project and have only ten minutes of battery life.

No dongle

Do you know that little dongle that you carry everywhere on your laptop?

Likewise, it fits between couch cushions and beneath coffee table chairs, as well as in a bowl of assorted junk on your fridge.

Where did I put that dongle?! Prepare yourselves… frustration is coming.

Wireless mice

Their main benefit is that they have no wires! They're no longer a new and exciting thing, but plenty of people still love them for the reasons below:

Better mobility

You don't have to worry about getting a mouse cord tangled while on the go (e.g. in an airport or coffee shop).

A comfortable chair is ideal to sit in while using a mouse on the leg of your pants.

It is possible to lay back and use the mouse on your chest or stomach. You get the idea.

Wireless mice are almost indispensable if you've got a home entertainment setup. Nobody wants to get up to change the channel (or open an AVI file) when sitting on their couch.

Less resistance

Better mobility is important, but it is not the same as mobility.

A cluttered desktop is quite frustrating — if you're a gamer you might know how it feels when you are trying to shoot and your mouse cable gets caught on the player manual and energy drink can.

The only thing you can see in the corners of your avatar's eye as you get subdued.

Cleaning is exhausting. Why not use a wireless gaming mouse instead?

No real price difference

Wireless mice used to be significantly more expensive than wired mice, but thanks to advances in technology, you can buy a good wireless mouse for the same price (or less) than a wired mouse nowadays.

The wireless mouse is not the greatest reason for buying one, but at least if it doesn't work out you won't regret spending so much when you could have bought a wired mouse for around the same price.

Does the debate rage on?

Your choice of wireless or wired mouse ultimately depends on your preference. Often, you'll just pick the one closest to you to get the job done.
