How financially fit is your non-profit organisation? Are its financial resources well managed? How healthy are your financial control systems? This checklist will assess your grasp of the key financial issues confronting non-profit financial managers.
At the end of the questionnaire we'll give your score and our diagnosis. There are four possible categories:
1. 115 – 130 points
Well done! Your organisation belongs to a small number of NPOs in South Africa with sound financial systems of control. Our diagnosis – financial fitness!
2. 95 – 115 points
Pretty good! But the warning signs are evident – there is still room to improve your financial fitness. Our prescription: Some remedial action may be required.
3. 65 – 95 points
Looking pretty flabby! We detect a few significant problems and suggest you seek professional advice to understand and improve your systems. Diagnosis: not terminal but not too good either.
4. Below 65 points
Emergency treatment required! Your financial health could imperil the life of your organisation. You may have a terminal case on your hands unless radical surgery is performed urgently. Obtain expert advice as a priority – before it’s too late to resuscitate your organisation.
And now for the questionnaire! Some questions may require a little thought, but it shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes to complete:
