Liturgy

Art and Environment Group: Decorate the worship space for special seasons, feasts and other occasions.
Adoration: Spend a half hour or more once a week with Jesus, who is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. 24-hour adoration from Friday from 8:30 a.m. to Saturday at 8:30 a.m., expanding to 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
Lector/Commentator: Prayerfully prepare and proclaim the Scriptures in the worshipping assembly.
Minister of Holy Communion: Share the Bread of Life and the Cup of our Salvation at Mass.
Nursery Supervisor: Work with youth nursery volunteers to staff the nursery during Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m. September through May only.
Ushers at Funerals: Compassionate service similar to below, mainly during morning and afternoon hours during the week.
Ushers/Ministry of Hospitality/Gift Bearers: Welcome people before Mass, collect gifts of the assembly, bring bread and wine forward during Preparation of Gifts.

Music

 ActiveInterested
Adult Choir: Mixed SATB choir which sings at Sunday Mass twice per month and on other feasts. Practice Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
Cantors: Talented vocalists who lead the assembly in refrains, acclamations and songs. Sing when choir is not scheduled.
Instrumentalists: Brass, strings and percussion needed for special feasts and holy days.
Joyful Noise Choir: Contemporary group open to men and women of all ages, utilizing various instruments. Practice Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.
Life Band: The Life Band is looking for a part-time bass player, lead guitarist, and one or two male vocalists. Call the Liturgy Office or Jessica Kuntz at 218-287-8667 for more information and audition.
Men’s Choir: An all-male choir that practices an hour before their scheduled Mass.
Resurrection Choir: Sings at funeral liturgies during the day. Open to men and women. Practice 45 minutes before each funeral.
Revelation Choir: Open to singers and instrumentalists of college age and older and sings a variety of music. Practice Tuesdays from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

Administration

Accounting Office Help: Help with filing and special projects in the accounting office anytime Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Bulk Mailing Helpers: Helpers are needed at the parish office for folding papers, stuffing envelopes, etc, during the daytime hours.
Receptionist: Occasionally fill in for parish secretary, especially during summer months. Answer phone and greet office visitors.

Maintenance

Artisan/Handyman: People experienced in carpentry or painting who are willing to help on projects as needed.
Green Thumb Committee: No meetings! Just a willingness to pull weeds, water outdoor plants and keep our campus looking beautiful during the summer months. Work at your convenience.
Events Set-up/Take-down: Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for larger events, washing dishes and other miscellaneous clean-up.
Lawn Mowers: Help mow the lawn during the summer months.
Maintenance Committee: Meets once a month to provide leadership on issues relating to facility updating, repair, maintenance of parish campus.
Monday Cleaners: Meet with others Mondays at 8:30 a.m. to help clean church and TGP. Help weekly or as able.
On-Call Helpers: Sign up to be called on to help with (fill in the blank!) as needed. Usually entails some kind of manual labor around the parish campus.
Saturday morning cleaners: Be part of an on-call list of helpers that our neighbors coordinator may call upon as needed to help clean the church and The Gathering Place on Saturday mornings 1-2 times per month.
Technology: Tech-savvy people are needed in the parish office to run updates, install software, do troubleshooting and other routine computer maintenance in the parish office, preferably after hours.
Truckers: People with pickup trucks who are willing to help load, haul and unload stuff as needed.

Faith Formation for Adults

Adult Faith Formation/Evangelization Committee: Meets regularly to initiate adult faith formation opportunities (such as RENEW) organize parish missions and programs to encourage the return of Catholics who have been away from the church.
Baptism Sponsor: Meet with young couples in your home or at church and help them prepare for the baptism of their child.
MACH 1: Mothers and Children: Participate in a Bible study geared specifically toward mothers. The study meets weekly for two hours to discuss Scripture and other Catholic materials.
RCIA: Co-journey with those going through the Rite of Initiation for Christian adults to be members of the Catholic Church. Help in a group setting with faith-sharing, prayer and the study of the Catholic Tradition.
RENEW Why Catholic?: Our diocese and parish have embraced this program which enables us to deepen our understanding and appreciation of our faith. Sign up to be part of a small faith-sharing group that meets 6 times in the fall and 6 times during Lent.

Faith Formation for Children

Catechist/Teacher: Teach a class of children weekly on Wednesdays (grades 1-8) or Sundays (preschool and kindergarten). Curriculum guide and teaching helps provided.
Catechist/Teacher Assistant: Provide weekly assistance to a catechist in a classroom by helping with tasks, working with children, etc. No experience necessary.
Catechist/Teacher Substitute: Teach a class of children as needed for a catechist who is unable to teach that week. Curriculum guide and teaching helps provided.
Children’s Faith Formation Council: Advisory group that meets 5 times a year to discuss issues related to the preschool through 5th grade religious education program.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word: During the Sunday readings and homily, proclaim and discuss God’s word at a child’s level. Materials and training provided.
Fundraising for Faith Formation: Provide leadership, direction, and coordination of the annual RE pancake breakfast and/or other fundraisers to help fund RE programs.
Nursery Supervisor: Work with youth nursery volunteers to staff the nursery as needed for faith formation events.
R.E. Office Helper: Help on Wednesdays during the afternoon or evening by answering the phone, delivering messages, running off copies and various tasks.
Vacation Bible School Catechist: Teach groups of children about Scripture through a variety of creative activities on mornings during the week following the last week of school.
Vacation Bible School Helper: Help with crafts, snacks, set-up for classes or activities as needed through the week during VBS.
Vacation Bible School Scenery Helper: Help design and put together a backdrop for VBS.

Faith Formation for Youth

LIFE Core Team: A youth ministry team made up of adults. They help at the Wednesday night youth group meetings, at Sunday evening Mass and senior high youth retreats.
Youth Events Chaperone: Chaperone during youth rallies, service projects, Wednesday evening middle school/senior high youth nights, etc.

St. Joseph's School

Alumni Association - Help with formal development programs that keep our alumni in touch with their school, such as class reunions.
Alumni/Friends Newsletter - If you like to write and share good news, sign up to submit your work for the St. Joseph's School newsletter, published three times per year.
Audio/Visual Development - Work on a school promotional video to be shared at Meritcare Parents Fair, open houses for enrollment and other activities and share the awesome spirit of our school.
Catholic Schools Week - Give tours of the school during Catholic Schools Week in January, help serve breakfast, coordinate the dance and promote other events of the week

Grantwriting - Put your skills to work to research and write proposals, as well as communicating and following up with foundation boards who allocate funds.
Lead Room Parent - Work hand in hand with your child's teacher helping out with special projects in the classroom, like coordinating other parents for holidays, field trips and special events.
Library Aide - Help librarian with shelving books and creating bulletin boards anytime Monday or Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Lunch Room Aide - Help serve condiments, supervise students and help with lunch and clean up any day Monday-Friday from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Office Assistant - Help answer phones, make photocopies, open mail, etc, any day Monday - Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Playground/Recess Supervisor - Help on any day, Monday-Friday, from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Teacher Aide - Assist teachers with students and classroom prep any day Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Technology Committee - Are you a techie? Would you want to help maintain our IT systems and help create the vision to keep our campus technology program up to date? Then this is for you!

Outreach - Service to the community

Catholic Daughters of the Americas: International Catholic organization committed to faith and service. Open to any Catholic women 18 or older.
Charitable Concerns Committee: Concerned group of parishioners who raise funds to provide financial support to families and individuals in times of crisis.
Christian Mothers: Members meet regularly for liturgy, breakfast, sharing and to meet various needs in the parish.
Churches United for the Homeless: Cook and serve an evening meal on the first Thursday of each month.
Communion Minister to the Homebound: Bring Communion to parishioners unable to participate in the Eucharist at church due to physical conditions.
Dorothy Day Food Pantry: Food pantry on Main Ave. in Moorhead needs people to make food available for the needy on weekdays from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Dorothy Day House Coordinator of Cooks: Call parishioners or groups who have volunteered to cook a meal for or at the DD House on the 1st Mon and 3rd Wed of each month.
Dorothy Day House Volunteer: Help with meal preparation, cleaning, errands, house-sitting, office work and special projects.
Eventide Communion Minister: Bring Communion on Sundays to Catholic residents of Eventide, a local provider of care for older adults.
Eventide Escort: Help Eventide residents who use wheelchairs to go to and from Mass on Friday and/or Sunday mornings.
Faithfully Fit Forever Instructor: Two energetic leaders needed for 45 minute exercise program. Leaders alternate leading program every other week. Aerobic instruction background NOT required. Senior leaders welcome.

Funeral Luncheon Helpers: Group of on call helpers who help serve funeral luncheons during the day as needed. This is a wonderful way to offer hospitality to grieving families.
Healthy Snacks Helpers: Once each quarter help provide healthy snack choices during community time after Sunday Masses.
Hospital Visitor: Visit parishioners in our area hospitals once or twice per month. Meet quarterly for ongoing formation and scheduling of visits.
Knights of Columbus: The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men’s fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. We are committed to making our community a better place, while supporting our church. Open to men 18 years of age and older.
Meals on Wheels Driver: Deliver already-prepared meals to the homebound, who look forward not only to the meal, but to contact with caring people.
Nursing Home/Homebound Visitor: Be a presence to elderly and homebound Catholics by visiting them on a regular basis.
Parish Nurses: RN’s needed; will pay to train.
Parish Social Ministry: Meets to discuss and implement ways to advocate for the poor, including working with legislators and collaborating with JRLC and local justice groups.
Pastoral Council: Represent the parish community and provide feedback and input to our pastor. Help determine and put into action the vision of the parish.
Prayer Chain Member: Provide spiritual support by praying for others and by phoning other prayer chain members to pray for those in need.

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Interested volunteers knit or crochet prayer shawls for ill or homebound parishioners.
Respite Helpers: Help give caregivers time away by occasionally sitting with their spouse, child or other person in their home.
Respect Life Committee: Meeting times vary for convenience of members. Offer ideas and work with special projects to promote life.
RSVP: (Formerly Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Now anyone (no longer just people 55 and older) can sign up through the RSVP organization to offer time and skills to over 120 Fargo-Moorhead organizations, like nursing homes and day cares, and can include service to St. Joseph’s Parish, St. Joseph’s School and the Newman Center. Report your volunteer hours and receive accident insurance while volunteering, a quarterly newsletter and an invitation to the annual recognition event.
Sister Parish Committee: Meet occasionally to promote solidarity with our sister parish in rural Mexico. Help with visits, planning, ideas for communication. Spanish language skills are a plus, but not necessary.
Small Tasks for the Elderly/People with Handicaps: Occasionally we receive calls from parishioners who need help to accomplish small but necessary tasks and we’d like to have a pool of names of people whom we could call to help. Could you be one of them?
Transportation Provider: Give rides to Mass, medical appointments, etc., for those unable to drive.
Wellness Advisory Council: No health background needed; what is important is an interest in wellness and a willingness to participate in planning education and activities promoting health.
Wellness Events Helpers: Assist in specific health-promoting projects such as blood drives, wellness fairs, etc.

Stewardship

Stewardship Committee: Be part of a team that meets every other month to plan events and programs that promote stewardship as a way of life in our parish.
Neighbors Area Leader: One month each year, call people in your neighborhood and recruit them to help out with funerals, church cleaning, coffee and doughnuts, etc. Be a leader!
Newcomer Sponsor: Come to Mass on a Newcomer Sunday (every couple of months) and meet a new family and welcome them to our community. You are lined up with a family ahead of time, sit with them at Mass and help them mingle afterward at coffee and rolls. Sign up as a family! Share your hospitality and warmth with someone new to the parish.

Young Adult Ministry

Young Adult Ministry Committee: Planning, organizing, implementing social, service, and faith-oriented activities for parishioners in their 20s and 30s.
Young Adult Event Helper: Serve in a variety of tasks according to your interest: Bring bars or beverages to an event, set-up or takedown, or other support roles.
Young Adult Nursery Supervisor: Work with youth nursery volunteers to staff the nursery as needed. Play with kids of a wide variety of ages and help give a little “adult time” to young parents.

Newman Center

Provide and Serve Sunday Dinner: Provide and prepare a meal for 25-35 college students on a Sunday after the 4:30 p.m. Mass at the Newman Center.
Finals Week Refreshments: Bake bread, muffins or other treats and casserole dishes for students during finals week in December and April.
Finals Week: Late-Night Breakfast: Donate food items, help prepare and serve a pancake and egg breakfast scheduled from 9:00-11:00 p.m. two times a year, December and April.
Liturgical Ministries (college-age students): Choose from the following: Minister of Holy Communion; Lector; Hospitality; Altar Server; Sacristan
Music Ministries (college-age students): Choose from the following: Choir participant; Instrumentalist
Praise and Worship Coordinator: Coordinate praise and worship for college students once a week during the school year.
Social Justice: Help at the Dorothy Day Food Pantry in the evening 1-2 times per month.
Website Maintenance: Updates needed on a weekly basis
Weekly Maintenance: Sweeping floors, vacuuming carpets, dusting, etc.
