The Tree Research and Education Endowment Fund (TREE Fund) announces the availability of one student scholarship per year, offered through the John Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was established by Wright Tree Service in honor and memory of its founder, John L. Wright and his son, John R. Wright. The purpose of this one-year scholarship is to support the arboriculture industry by helping college students interested in commercial arboriculture achieve high academic goals without accumulating burdensome debt. The scholarship amount is $2,000 and will be awarded during the summer TREE Fund Board of Trustees meeting. The award is non-renewable, but can be applied for annually. All awards will be paid directly to the educational institution, attended by the recipient, in two equal payments. Proof of attendance and minimum GPA criteria will be required prior to second payment.
Applicants must be high school seniors entering college or community college - or - returning college students seeking a first bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree while attending an accredited U.S. college or university. All applicants must plan to enter the arboriculture industry. Consideration will be given for honorably discharged veterans and present members of the United States Armed Forces, Reserves and National Guard.
All of the following criteria must be met to qualify:
- Entering or returning students at accredited undergraduate institutions in the United States
- United States citizen
- Planning on entering the commercial arboriculture industry
- Academic excellence and aptitude for studies
- Applicants should:
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- Be enrolled in a demanding course of study
- Demonstrate skilled writing ability
- Citizenship, character and serious-mindedness
- Applicants should:
- Demonstrate exceptional class work and attendance
- Demonstrate productivity
- Have leadership experience
- Be a team player
- Have a desire for life-long learning
- Have a desire to make a meaningful contribution to society
- Be involved in a balance of community, school and work activities
- Pursue goals and aspirations with integrity, resolution, selfdiscipline and judgment
- Earn money for college expenses through part-time work
